The West Shores Middle and High School community will collaborate to establish a positive school climate where there are effective support systems, clear and consistent expectations, and opportunities for learning and growth. Students will achieve academic success and social-emotional well-being while learning to be safe, responsible, and respectful.

What all West Shores Middle/High School students should know, understand, and be able to do upon graduation in order to be globally competent citizens.

I am a complex thinker

• I can use Thinking Maps and graphic organizers to understand and explain complex texts or concepts
• I can use the writing initiative CER (claim, evidence, reasoning) for a variety of audiences, purposes and topics.
• I can support an opinion giving at least two relevant detail

I am an active and self-directed learner

• I can mark the text and close read all directions or instructions before starting an assignment.
• I can present and discuss information presented in a chart, graph, or other visual organizer.

I make positive contributions to myself, my school, the environment, and the global community

• I can participate in academic discussions for a variety of audiences, purposes, and topics.
• I join academic or extracurricular clubs, sports, activities, or events throughout the school year

I am an effective communicator

• I can communicate effectively in emails, a 7-sentence paragraph (7-10th), or 11-sentence paragraph (11-12th) 
• I can sustain academic and social conversations in English and/or Spanish.
• I can summarize the key steps in an academic presentation and identify at least one detail per step.
